WHY HEIC
Why HEIC files cause trouble.
HEIC (properly, HEIF) is the format an iPhone uses to store photos by default. It keeps the same quality in a smaller file than JPEG, but plenty of places still cannot read it.
- Windows — on Windows 11 and Windows 10, the built-in Photos app often cannot open HEIC. You may need to add a codec, and it is sometimes a paid one.
- Older software and business systems — upload forms frequently accept only JPEG and PNG.
- The other person's device — if the person you send it to cannot read HEIC, the photo simply never opens.
Converting to JPG first avoids nearly all of these problems.

Are my photos uploaded?
No. Conversion finishes inside the browser. The only thing downloaded is the code that does the work.
How many photos can I convert at once?
Up to 20 files at a time. Each HEIC file can be up to 20 MB and about 12.6 megapixels. Photos shot at 24 MP or 48 MP are not supported.
Will the quality drop?
JPG is a lossy format, so the image is re-compressed. Quality is set to 85% by default and you can raise it. Choose PNG if you want lossless output.
Do Live Photo videos survive?
No. Only the main still image is converted. Burst frames and depth data are not kept either.
What happens to the location and other details?
The image is re-encoded, so common metadata is removed. If you would rather review it first, usethe photo metadata remover.
Why can't Windows 11 open HEIC files?
The codec needed to read HEIC is not installed by default. You can add it from the Store, sometimes for a fee. Converting here avoids that entirely.
