WHY WEBP
Why WebP files cause trouble.
WebP is an image format created by Google. It keeps the same appearance in a smaller file than JPEG or PNG, which is why websites use it so widely — and why an image saved from your browser often arrives as ".webp". Plenty of places on the receiving end still cannot read it.
- Older software and business systems — upload fields frequently accept only JPEG and PNG.
- Pasting into documents — older versions of Word and PowerPoint may refuse to place the file.
- Printing and print submission — print shops often restrict submissions to JPEG or PNG.
- The other person's device — if the recipient's software does not support it, the image simply never opens.
Converting to PNG or JPG first avoids nearly all of these problems.
WHICH FORMAT
PNG or JPG — which to choose.
- PNG — best for images with a transparent background, text, logos and line art. No quality is lost, but the file is larger.Choose PNG to keep transparency.
- JPEG — best for photographs and other images with many colours. Files are smaller, but transparent areas are filled in, usually with white.
- Keep it as WebP — if the image is going on your own site, the lighter WebP is the better choice. You can also convert PNG or JPG into WebP to slim them down.

Frequently asked questions
Does transparency survive when I convert WebP to PNG?
Yes — choose PNG and transparent areas are kept as they are. JPG fills them in, so pick PNG whenever transparency matters.
Will the quality drop?
Converting to PNG is lossless. JPG is a lossy format, so the image is re-compressed; quality is set to 85% by default and you can raise it.
How many photos can I convert at once?
Up to 20 files at a time, 50 MB each, 100 MB in total.
What about animated WebP files?
Only the first frame is saved, as a still image. The animation is not kept.
Can I convert PNG or JPG into WebP?
Yes — choose WebP as the output format. It is useful for slimming down images you are putting on a website.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion finishes inside the browser. The only thing downloaded is the code that does the work.
